Of Spanish decent, guitarist Ben Gateño earned Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He has also studied with renowned teacher and performer Antigoni Goni in Brussels, Belgium.

Ben Gateño is a professional performer and instructor of a wide range of guitar styles and genres, with a special emphasis on classical, country blues, and ragtime.

Spanish classical guitar from the 1800s to early 1900s. With intricate ornamentation, complex polyphonic textures, and a focus on both strummed and plucked techniques.

Set 2 features:

Country Blues from 1920s–1930s:

Deeply personal, emotive vocals and expressive guitar work—marked by fingerpicking, slide techniques, and rhythmic looseness—reflecting the lived experiences of life in the rural south.

Ragtime from 1920s–1930s:

Syncopated rhythms and lively melodies with intricate fingerstyle arrangements that capture its ragged swing into a playful, toe-tapping bounce and charm reflective of the era’s vibrant energy.
